Catchplus > Projects > Common services > Persistent Identifiers > Users
CATCHPlus has expanded several activities to develop a persistent identifier service for science and cultural heritage:
- In cooperation with SARA and others a web service has been developed in which webbased persistent identifiers can be generated and managed in a simple manner.
- A contribution has been made to the robust anchoring of this PID service in European context (EPIC).
- In cooperation with DEN eight Dutch projects and organisations have been brought together. During a 2 year project they will apply persistent identifiers and develop a service packet, including a cost model.
EPIC (European Persistent Identifier Consortium)
With thee other European computer centers SARA has formed a consortium, EPIC. EPIC offers persistent identifier services based on Handle technology. These computer centers host the handles they manage for their users back and forth and guarantee a durable, reliable service. The RESTful API developed by CATCHPlus and SARA will be used and further developed by EPIC.
PID platform
Eight Dutch organisations have set the objective to develop a service packet for PIDs (including a cost model) in a two year project. Their goal is to establish a good, reliable and affordable PID solution for heritage and scientific institutions, through upscaling.
